If you are interested in garage door opener repair yourself, you need to understand that garage door gears are among the weaker parts of the opener and can be damaged over time due to reasons like old age, repeated usage without maintenance, imbalance in the garage door, or some internal manufacturing defect.

First and foremost, you should disconnect the electric supply to the garage door so one could operate the door by chance while you are working on it. Next, you should close the door manually and remove the pulley to ensure that the garage door doesn’t hurt you accidentally. Now you can follow these simple steps to repair your garage door opener gears.

  1. Once you are ready, open the retainer cap of the belt pulley, and remove the sprocket.
  2. Remove the chain or belt from the sprocket after making its position
  3. Tape the chain or belt to prevent it from getting twisted or messed up.
  4. Remove the end covers, the drive gear, the retaining clip, the RPM sensors
  5. Disconnect the motor.
  6. An assembly of nuts holds the motor to the shaft. Remove these nuts first.
  7. Once you have removed the motor from the driveshaft, you can remove the gear and replace it with the new one.
  8. Assemble the entire system in the exact opposite manner.
